Google might be one of the smallest players when it comes to number of smartphones sold worldwide, but the tech giant has reportedly sold around 10 million Pixel devices in the last one year.

According to a recent post by IDC VP Francisco Jeronimo, Google has shipped somewhere around 37.9 million Pixel devices since it started selling phones under the new brand name in 2016.

He also claimed that the “sales have been growing double digits in the last years”, with Google selling nearly 10 million devices in 2022.

Last year, the tech giant was nearing the 30 million milestone, meaning last year might potentially be the best year for Pixel devices. Since the launch of Pixel 7, Google has been steadily gaining traction in markets like the United States and Japan, with an earlier IDC report suggesting Pixel was gaining numbers when all other Android players were recording decline in total number of devices sold.

In July this year, Japan was revealed to be the biggest market for Google, taking share from Apple iPhone in the country. While the Pixel 8 and the Pixel 8 Pro might not be the fastest or the most flashiest phone in the market, the recently launched smartphone have a trick or two up their sleeves, offering numerous AI powered features that make Pixel devices stand out from the rest of the competition.

Combined this with the upgraded camera setup, new Tensor G3 chipset and 7 years of promised OS updates on both Pixel 8 series phones, we might see Google gaining traction in the smartphone industry.
