Google releases May 2023 Security Update for Pixel Phones – YTECHB


Google is back with the first Monday security update for Pixel phones. Today, the company rolls out May 2023 security update for eligible Pixel phones. For eligibility, the new software is available for phones starting from the Pixel 4a and up through the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro.

This month’s patch is seeding with the TQ2A.230505.002 build number on the Global models, whereas, the T-Mobile, MVNOs, and Google Fi variants pick up the new software with TQ2A.230505.002.A1 version number. There’s no information available for the Verizon model yet, it is expected to be released soon. It is a small incremental software upgrade that weighs only 26MB in size. Yes, you can quickly install it on your Pixel smartphone.

This month’s update is more focused on the security side, we can’t expect anything new in this update. Instead, it brings improvements to touch response on the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, as well as the issue where lock screen UI elements overlap the home screen after unlocking. Here’s the list of changes shared by Google on the Pixel support forum.

    • Improvements for touch screen response in certain conditions [for Pixel 7 and 7 Pro]
  • User Interface
    • Fix for issue occasionally causing lock screen UI elements to overlap with home screen launcher interface

Now if you own Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a (5G), Pixel 5, Pixel 5a (5G), Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, or Pixel 7 Pro, then you can easily upgrade your phone to the latest security update.

At the moment, the update is rolling in a staged manner, you will receive the May 2023 update OTA notification once available on your device, you can tap on it and download the update or simply head over to the Settings > System > Advanced > System update and install the new software.

Additionally, you can manually install the May 2023 update on your Google Pixel phone by sideloading the update. The factory images and OTA files of the September update are already available. But make sure to take a backup before sideloading the new software.
