Google will soon release a much-needed update to its Chrome web browser. In version 117, Chrome will proactively inform users about the reasons behind the removal of an extension from the Chrome Web Store. According to the official blog post, with the latest update, the company is offering users more control and making web browsing on Google Chrome a lot safer.

Google Chrome version 117 is currently in the beta phase, and the company plans to release the update in the next few days.

The update also allows users to review extensions that have been taken down from the Chrome Web Store, especially if they were marked as malware or if the extensions violated Chrome Web Store policies. Users will be able to review these changes from the settings menu, from the “Privacy and Security” tab.

From the same menu, users can either choose to remove the extension or continue using it by hiding the warning. This enables users to access extensions that are marked as malware if needed, a feature that was not possible in earlier versions of Google Chrome.

In another blog, Google shared that Chrome will automatically upgrade all URLs from “http://” to “https://” to add automatic encryption and enhance user privacy. Similarly, Google will proactively warn users when they attempt to download a “high-risk” file from an unsecured website.

Currently, Google Chrome holds over 62 per cent of the market share in the world of web browsers. The company is proactively working on improving and developing the web browser to enhance security and user-friendliness.
