'Gladiator 2': Filming wrapped up. Release date, star cast and other details



The filming of ‘Gladiator 2‘, depicting ancient and Imperial Rome, has been wrapped up. Talking to ‘Entertainment Weekly’, Actor Joseph Quinn said that people associated with the movie understood the weight of the project ahead as the shadow of the original film loomed over the set. He said, “We all were very aware of the legacy of the first film. So many people get misty-eyed about it.” Recalling Connie Nielsen, who played Commodus‘s sister, Lucilla in the original film, Quinn said that her presence on set helped the young cast members. Quinn added that she came in “to show us how to behave in the Colosseum.” He added,”I was very nervous about it, and she was a very calming presence. She’s a wonderful woman.”

Homage to the legacy of Maximus

According to ‘Collider’, directed by Ridley Scott, the much-anticipated film will pay homage to the legacy of Maximus, portrayed by Russell Crowe, a Roman general. The general is trapped by Commodus, played by Joaquin Phoenix, in a coup that removes Commodus’ father, Caesar Marcus Aurelius.

Denzel Washington returns

Joseph Quinn plays Roman Emperor Caracalla. ‘Gladiator 2’ will see the return of Denzel Washington with Nielsen and Derek Jacobi reprising their roles as Lucilla and Senator Gracchus, respectively. Paul Mescal will portray Lucius Verus, the nephew of the villainous Commodus and the son of Commodus’s sister, Lucilla. He poses the greatest threat to the reign of Quinn’s Caracalla.
