Best seller: Gwyneth Paltrow
A publishing consultancy behind books by Gwyneth Paltrow and President Biden has launched in the UK in a boost to the industry.
Kevin Anderson & Associates (KAA), which is known for its expertise in ghostwriting but also offers other editing and consulting services, has opened an office in London and is planning a hiring spree.
Founder Kevin Anderson started the company in a ‘stuffy, subterranean computer lab’ at Harvard University in 2007.
It has published 24 number one Sunday Times and New York Times bestsellers – though it does not say which ones were ghostwritten – and 100 million books in total.
Fees for ghostwriting range from £35,000 to £145,000.
Titles KAA has worked on include It’s All Good, a recipe book by Oscar-winning actress and Goop founder Paltrow, a book on breathing by Dutch motivational speaker Wim Hof, Rafa: My Story by tennis star Rafael Nadal and Promises To Keep by Joe Biden.
KAA’s launch in the UK comes as Bertelsmann, the German company which owns publishing houses such as Penguin Random House, said last week sales rose by almost 2 per cent in the first nine months of the year.
The industry was gloomy a decade ago when Amazon’s Kindle and other e-readers became popular.
But traditional book sales are still strong and shone during the pandemic.
