- Proficy® software and OT data on AWS are designed to help reduce costs and maintenance, speed deployments, and allow enterprise-wide optimization
- Agreement provides structure to help industrial companies balance the needs of the plant floor with enterprise IT strategies and the advantages of cloud technologies
- Collaboration addresses increasing demand for industrial data management, OT dashboards, manufacturing execution, and automation applications on the cloud
SAN RAMON, Calif. – AUGUST 22, 2023 — GE Vernova’s Digital business today announced that it has signed a multi-year Strategic Collaboration Agreement (SCA) with Amazon Web Services (AWS) designed to help industrial companies and utilities accelerate digital transformation using cloud-based Proficy® software solutions. The collaboration aims to help diverse industrial organizations ranging from manufacturers to water/wastewater utilities decrease costs and maintenance, speed deployment and outcomes from digital transformation, and enable enterprise-wide visibility and optimization.
With collaboration that includes technical migration and sandbox innovation, GE Vernova’s Digital business and AWS are creating a structure to deliver Proficy software solutions in AWS Marketplace, a digital catalog that makes it easy to find, test, buy, and deploy software that runs on AWS. The two companies are collaborating on 10 operations technology (OT) software solutions. Several are now live in AWS Marketplace and/or are fully hosted on AWS. These software solutions include Proficy Historian for Cloud, Proficy Smart Factory – Cloud OEE and MES, Proficy Operations Hub, and Proficy Manufacturing Data Cloud.
In addition to helping lower deployment costs, these solutions can decrease maintenance resource overhead and increase performance with the latest features and newest software releases provided through the cloud infrastructure across an entire enterprise, including geographically dispersed locations. With cloud-based, managed industrial solutions, companies will no longer have to worry about patching the OS and supporting software; additionally, they can increase security through software managed at scale, including security updates.
Reducing Infrastructure Costs
As an example, GE Aerospace uses Proficy Historian to manage OT data in 32 manufacturing plants. “Managing this amount of data is costly,” said Bill Andrews, Technical Product Manager, GE Aerospace. “By moving from 32 distinct deployments to a single deployment of Proficy Historian on AWS, we can dramatically reduce management costs and downtime while improving value, scalability, and reliability.” The team will also improve system availability by eliminating more than a month of planned downtime and enabling a common data store accessible by thousands of enterprise-wide employees.
“The combination of proven OT software with cloud technology helps industrial companies improve their enterprise-wide operations and achieve the flexibility to deploy in a way that best suits their needs,” said Richard Kenedi, General Manager, Manufacturing and Digital Plant for GE Vernova’s Digital business. “By reducing the costs and human power needed to deploy and maintain software, any industrial organization can implement an adaptable operations solution and gain the real-time optimization to support digital transformation, continuous improvement, and lean initiatives.”
“The collaboration with GE Vernova’s Digital business can help customers make faster, data-driven decisions to address sustainability challenges by migrating to cloud,” said Rob McBay, Director of Strategic Industries at AWS. “Through this expanded collaboration, GE Vernova’s Digital business and AWS will help utilities and manufacturers improve efficiency, reduce waste, and achieve peak production.”
