START the day healthily with a quick and easy breakfast that is not expensive.
Here are some tips for the day’s most important meal . . .
YOU OLD SMOOTHIE: Smoothies pack in nutrients and you can run out the door with them when short on time.
Blitz up a banana, a handful of oats, peanut butter, milk and syrup or honey for a delicious, failsafe breakfast smoothie.
If you don’t fancy making your own, big bottles of Innocent Super Smoothies are down from £4.30 to £2.50 at Sainsbury’s.
Or Asda’s own-brand smoothies are £1.60 for 750ml, including tasty pineapple, banana and coconut flavours.
OATS SO GOOD: Porridge is a healthy and filling breakfast.
A 1kg bag of oats costs £1.29 from Morrisons and will keep you going for a while.
To save time in the morning, swap porridge for overnight oats made the evening before.
Simply mix yoghurt and oats together and leave in the fridge, and the oats will be nice and soft come the morning.
Jazz up the oats with extra ingredients, such as grated apple, cinnamon or a handful of blueberries.
Or try tiramisu overnight oats for a little caffeine kick and a true breakfast treat.
Stir up oats with some vanilla yoghurt, a spoonful of cocoa powder and a shot of coffee — add syrup, sugar or honey to taste — then leave overnight
BREAKFAST TO GO: Homemade break-fast muffins are cheap, tasty and can also be made the night before.
Mash up a banana with half a cup of oats and one large egg, plus a pinch of baking powder.
Then add blueberries or raspberries, or a spoonful of peanut butter depending on the flavours you like.
Bake in a cupcake tray for around 15 minutes, till golden.
This recipe should make around three or four muffins, depending on size. Ready to grab and go in the morning.
No time to bake? Kellogg’s Nutri-grain cereal bars are currently on offer at Sainsbury’s, with a pack of six down from £2 to £1.50.
