Freeman wins gold at Grand Prix of Spain, Greco-Roman team … – TeamUSA.org

MADRID, Spain – Two athletes competed in the Greco-Roman division at the Grand Prix of Spain on Friday, with Courtney Denzel Freeman earning a gold medal and the United States placing sixth in a field of 12 teams.

Freeman, competing at 130 kg, defeated two opponents on his way to earning a gold medal at the Grand Prix of Spain. Freeman’s first win was a 9-0 technical fall over Spain’s Geronimo Camara. In the final match, Freeman pulled through for a close 11-9 victory to earn gold over Colombia’s Oscar Loango.

Shaun Heist competed at 97 kg and placed fourth. Heist faced opponents from Finland, Korea and Spain.

The event continues with women’s freestyle on July 8. Matches will start at 10 a.m. local time with medal matches set to begin at 4 p.m.

Local time in Madrid, Spain, is six hours ahead of the U.S. Eastern time zone.
