IF you crave extra space at home, it is time to take action.
Many of us do not have the cash for a bigger pad.
But you can create storage on a shoestring budget that will leave your home feeling calmer and roomier . . .
VERTICAL STORAGE: Create more storage by adding shelving to walls. Floating shelves look great and start from £5 at Ikea.
If you fancy taking on a project, box shelving is a bit different and you can make your own from MDF. There is a step-by-step tutorial on B&Q’s website (diy.com/ideas-advice/1.hroot).
Or try making a rail by sanding down a spare piece of timber and adding a few hooks. You could then use it to hang coats, mugs, pans or utensils.

BE A BETTER BOXER: Homes feel more organised when everything has somewhere to go. You can put many existing items or even junk to good use as storage.
For example, old chocolate tins can be used for colouring pens or crayons.
Hampers or baskets are a great place to stash toys.
And shoe boxes work for storing important documents. Try covering the outside in stylish paper and display on a shelf.
CUPBOARD SPACE: Make the most of existing cupboards by adding extra levels or compartments so they will hold more items.
Hanging organisers start from £6 at Dunelm and can help you pack a wardrobe with extra belongings.
Adding two-tiered racks to kitchen cupboards mean you can double the amounts of jars, cans or spice jars in the space.
DOUBLE UP: When buying furniture, look for pieces that are functional but have secret compartments to store clutter.
An ottoman will give you something to perch on but can be filled with clothes or throws. Opt for a coffee table with room underneath, or a sofa with extra storage built in.
