HOLIDAYMAKERS looking for a value trip away often turn to Airbnb to book a stay.
If you use the app, there are ways to make extra savings.
Here are the tricks to cut the cost of your getaway . . .
HAGGLE: The price you see listed on Airbnb is not necessarily the one you get. In many cases hosts will accept less.
Contact them through the app, explain you are interested and ask if they will do a deal.
This method works especially well if you are staying for longer periods as hosts are more likely to want the booking.
CASHBACK: You can get five per cent back from your booking through cashback app JamDoughnut.
Download the app and buy an Airbnb giftcard through it for the amount of the booking you are looking to make.
Cashback is instantly added to your JamDoughnut wallet and you can use the card to finish your Airbnb booking.
The bigger the booking, the more you get back.
COLLECT AVIOS: If you’re a member of the Avios points scheme, it’s worth knowing that you can get points for making an Airbnb booking when you do so through British Airways. See bit.ly/3s14wov for more details.
COMPARE COSTS: Before booking an Airbnb stay, check if you can get the same place cheaper elsewhere. Many of the properties can be found on other sites such as Booking.com and prices can differ.
It’s important to factor in service and cleaning fees for Airbnb, which push up costs.
Don’t always assume Airbnbs are the cheapest option — it’s still worth comparing hotel costs.
Airbnb is better value than hotels for large group bookings or for longer stays, but for shorter trips and smaller groups, the opposite is true, according to one US study by NerdWallet.
