These clever domestic tricks will be easier on your pocket.

PLAY A BLINDER: Venetian blinds look great, but they gather heaps of dust and can be a nightmare to clean.

While you could buy a specialist blind cleaner from Wilko for £3, why not save your cash and raid your kitchen drawer for a pair of cooking tongs instead.

Wrap two microfibre cloths around the tip of the tongs and slide them along the different sections of the blinds to clean the surfaces.

SCRUBBING UP WELL: The humble toothbrush is a great way to make bathroom grout white again.

Mix up a paste of bicarb of soda and water and use an old toothbrush to scrub into the grooves.

Leave for half an hour then rinse and scrub with your toothbrush again for glowing lines of grout.

WHAT A WIPE OUT: Disposable wipes are expensive and not always good for the planet.

So instead, use cleaning influencer cleanwith_kayleigh’s clever trick of adding microfibre cloths to a jar of diluted disinfectant, such as Aldi’s Powerforce 4 in 1, 89p.

Once the liquid has been absorbed, you have your own DIY wipes and they are great for cleaning hard surfaces.

Wash, repeat and use them over and over again.

SOCK IT TO DIRT: If you have a flat mop, save on buying disposable floor wipes or microfibre reusable ones.

Instead, save old odd socks (soft, stretchy bed socks work best) and simply stretch around the mop base.

Use it with a diluted floor cleaner to make your floors sparkle, then remove and wash the socks to use them again.

Old fluffy socks and cotton T-shirts cut into rags also make excellent dusters and furniture polishers.
