Forget Nintendo Switch 2 and Steam Deck, your next iPhone will blow them away

If you’re looking for a powerful new handheld console capable of playing the latest triple-A blockbusters, then look no further than the newly announced iPhone 15 Pro. The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max are powered by the ultra-powerful A17 Pro chipset, which is capable of running games like Resident Evil Village, Resident Evil 4, Death Stranding, and Assassin’s Creed Mirage. The games will be available later in 2023, so get your iPhone 15 pre-orders in asap to avoid missing out.

Described as the “biggest redesign in the history of Apple GPUs”, the A17 Pro delivers console-quality graphics on the iPhone.

While cloud-based streaming has traditionally been used to play console-style games on the iPhone, the A17 Pro chip makes it possible to play the games natively.

Even more impressive is that the iPhone 15 Pro uses hardware-accelerated ray tracing for the first time on smartphones.

According to Apple, hardware-accelerated ray tracing is up to four times faster than software‑based ray tracing, something which will deliver superior lighting and shadow effects.

The iPhone 15 Pro also utilises MetalFX Upscaling, which is said to combine the performance of the GPU and the Neural Engine to produce “high‑resolution graphics while using much less power”.

In theory, this means you’ll be able to play blockbuster games for longer, and without using as much battery.

In addition to the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, both Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil Village are coming to iPad and Mac devices in 2023. Cross-platform progression will be supported across all compatible Apple devices.

Capcom explains more: “Both games deliver stunning graphics with visual fidelity that parallels the latest home consoles and support HDR for incredible realism.

“With support for a wide array of game controllers plus multi-touch with on-screen controls, players can customise their gameplay experience.

“Available on the App Store later this year, both games support cross-progression, so players’ progress is synced across iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

“With a free download, players can experience high-end gameplay with stunning graphics before accessing the full game with one in-app purchase.”
