Forget Freeview, Virgin Media is dishing out premium TV channels for free this month

Freeview might offer a swathe of television channels without charging a monthly fee but Virgin Media appears to be fighting back. It’s just been confirmed that users of its TV platform are getting an added bonus this month with hours of premium sporting action being added at no extra cost.

The boost is courtesy of free access to Premier Sports which broadcasts coverage of events such as LALIGA, Motorsport, MMA, Scottish Premiership, Premier Sports Cup and more.

Content on this month includes the friendly between Real Madrid and Chelsea, action from Scotland such as Ross County v Aberdeen and clashes from Spain like Mallorca v Real Madrid and Barcelona v Athletic Club.

It usually costs £12.99 to add Premier Sports but that fee has been scrapped for a limited time.

Sadly, like all things in life, there is a catch as the freebie only lasts until August 31st but it’s still a nice added bonus for summer.

Once the freebie is up, Virgin users can then subscribe if they’ve enjoyed the on-screen action. Premier Sports can be added to bundles directly via Virgin TV boxes – just head to the Apps area and subscribe.

Speaking about the free access, David Bouchier, Chief TV and Entertainment Officer at Virgin Media O2 said: “Throughout August, we’re offering our customers even more value with the addition of free access to Premier Sports. Our customers can extend the summer of sport with football, rugby, motorsport and more, including upcoming games such as Real Madrid v Chelsea, Rangers v St Johnstone, Celtic v Hibernian and Dundee FC v Hearts.”

Those wanting access to more sporting action, including the Premier League, might also want to take a look at the latest Sky deal.

The firm is currently offering access to Sky Sports, Sky Entertainment and Netflix at its lowest-ever price. That means you’ll pay just £42 per month to tune in.

The only thing you need to be aware of is this bargain is available to those signing up for Sky Stream rather than the usual Sky Q device. Sky Stream uses your broadband to beam content to the big screen so there’s no need to have a dish drilling into your chimney.
