Focused fund category lost 4% Jan-March; Axis Focused 25 Fund lost 7.55%


The focused fund mutual fund category that invests in a portfolio of a maximum of 30 stocks lost around 4.30% in the January-March quarter in 2023. The benchmark for these schemes are Nifty 50 – TRI, Nifty 500-TRI, and S&P BSE 500 – TRI. The Nifty 50 – TRI, Nifty 500-TRI, and S&P BSE 500 – TRI, lost 4.03%, 5.66%, and 5.66% respectively in the quarter.

There were 26 schemes in the category. All the schemes in the category gave negative returns in the last quarter. Top losers in the category lost around 8%. Axis Focused 25 Fund lost the most around 7.55% in the quarter that ended in March 2023.

Around six focused schemes each lost around 3-5% and two schemes lost 2%. Three schemes lost around 1%. Edelweiss Focused Equity Fund lost the lowest of around 1.39% in the quarter that ended in March 2023.


Out of 26 schemes in the category, 21 schemes managed to outperform their respective benchmarks.

As per recent AMFI data, the focused fund category in the quarter that ended in March 2023 received a total inflow of Rs 670.82 crore. The net asset under management for the focused fund category as on March 31, 2023 was Rs 98,672.57 crore.
