HERE are five hybrid cars punters can buy for under £10,000 including a “handsome” Peugeot.
Matthew Goodwin from High Peak Autos has expressed concern at the expansion of the new Ulez zone.
The levy has been controversial since its inception four years ago and has met with significant resistance from angry motorists.
A woman who works on the show said that she was now considering selling her diesel motor and buying a hybrid.
But she told Matthew that she only had a budget of around £10,000.
In response to this Matthew has put to together a video showcasing some of the best hybrid motors available for under the £10k price point.
First up is the BMW 535 active hybrid which Matthew admits is a bit of a surprise choice.
He said: “I literally never knew that existed let’s look at this one and that’s a 2012 done 117 000 miles the miles are a bit on the
high side.
“With 340 brake horsepower that’s a really good option actually.”
He added that the road tax is only £190 a year and the motor claims to do 44 miles per gallon.
Next on the list is a Honda CR-Z which is on the market for around £6,000.
He said: “because it’s got three pedals and a manual gearbox you might think that it’s quite engaging to drive.”
Matthew explains that the motor claims to do 56 miles per gallon. He adds: “I’d run around in something like that to be honest.”
And the expert turns to a Lexus GS 450h from 2010 with 75000 miles on the clock.
He said: “They are a a little bit older now but they’re really good cars these.
“They’re quick as you like, silent, luxurious, well built and reliable.”
“In terms of road tax you’re talking 310 pounds with a combined fuel efficiency and 341 horsepower. I told you they were quick.”
Mathew then turns to a Peugeot 508. Although the expert is not a huge fan of the “handsome” Peugeot, he describes it as “not a bad option if you are after a spacious saloon.”
And last but no means least is the Mercedes E Class hybrid diesel.
Mathew describes the Mercedes as “not a bad option” and point out that “at least it doesn’t look like Prius.”
He adds: “I’ve never actually looked at these before to buy but it just looks like great value to me.”
Londoners have been rebelling against the ULEZ charge, especially so after the zone expanded in August.
This has included the now-infamous ‘Blade Runners‘ sabotaging enforcement cameras in a spate of attacks.
However, some have found a more peaceful (and legal) form of resistance by scouting out some gaps in the rules that govern ULEZ.
All the regulations can be found on the Transport for London (TfL) website and some eagle-eyed readers have spied some interesting exceptions.
