First Black graduate of Georgia Tech University's granddaughter receives diploma almost 60 years later – Market Research Telecast


Ronald Yancey, Georgia Tech’s first Black graduate, proudly presented his granddaughter Deanna with her master’s degree in electrical and computer engineering at her commencement ceremony. Deanna is among a few relatives who have also attended Georgia Tech, earning her undergraduate degree from Penn State in 2020. Ronald faced adversity and discrimination when he attended Georgia Tech in the 1960s, but he persevered and paved the way for Deanna to follow in his footsteps. Despite challenges and additional requirements, Ronald earned his degree, setting an example for his granddaughter, who achieved a similar feat 59 years later.
