Fenwick today announced that Robert Slack has joined the firm as a partner in the firm’s regulatory practice in Washington, DC.
Rob represents technology clients in economic sanctions, export controls and other trade compliance matters. His clients span a broad array of industries, including the financial, technology, energy, defense, manufacturing and other sectors, and he regularly represents clients before key export-regulating bodies such as the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), the Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), the Department of State’s Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC), the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), and the Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA).
“We are delighted to welcome Rob to our team at such an exciting time for our regulatory practice,” Fenwick chair Richard Dickson said. “We are committed to helping our tech and life sciences clients navigate an increasingly complex regulatory environment.”
Rob has significant experience conducting global investigations and audits, designing and implementing export and sanctions compliance programs tailored to clients’ needs. His extensive background in export controls and sanctions will allow Fenwick to continue to develop a robust regulatory team to help our clients navigate complex domestic and international regulatory and compliance matters.
“Rob’s capabilities are important for our clients as they navigate complex trade, national security, and regulatory issues both nationally and globally,” said regulatory chair Mark Ostrau. “We are excited to welcome Rob to the firm and to our growing regulatory team. His extensive experience in export controls and sanctions will be invaluable going forward as we continue to develop our capabilities in this area.”
“I am thrilled to join the dynamic regulatory team at Fenwick – a firm renowned for its cutting-edge legal advice across the tech and life sciences sectors,” Rob said. “I look forward to leveraging Fenwick’s robust platform and expanding my practice while serving our clients’ most complex regulatory needs.”
Rob’s arrival demonstrates significant, continued growth for the Fenwick regulatory team and the Washington, DC office. In late 2021, trade and national security partner Melissa Duffy, in addition to antitrust partners Steve Albertson and Tom Ensign, joined the firm and helped launch the DC office, which officially opened in April 2022. Two months later, Fenwick added government contracts partners Joyce Tong Oelrich, Zohra Tejani to the group in DC. Fenwick also expanded its regulatory capabilities in California by welcoming Santa Monica-based healthcare regulatory partner Jennifer Yoo.
