FASTag KYC deadline today, otherwise it will be deactivated. How to check and update

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced that FASTags without complete KYC (Know Your Customer) will be deactivated by banks after January 31, 2024. In an effort to enhance the efficiency of the electronic toll collection system and facilitate smooth movement at toll plazas, NHAI has introduced the ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ initiative. This initiative aims to discourage the use of a single FASTag for multiple vehicles or linking multiple FASTags to a specific vehicle.
FASTags with valid balance but with incomplete KYC will get deactivated/blacklisted by banks post 31st January 2024, NHAI said in a statement.
NHAI is urging FASTag users to complete the KYC process for their latest FASTag, aligning with RBI guidelines. Users are advised to ensure the KYC for their most recent FASTag is completed to avoid inconvenience. After January 31, 2024, only the latest FASTag account will remain active, and previous tags will be deactivated or blacklisted, according to the statement. In case of queries or assistance, FASTag users can contact the nearest toll plazas or the toll-free customer care number of their respective issuer banks.
NHAI initiated this measure following reports of multiple FASTags being issued for a specific vehicle and FASTags being provided without proper KYC, violating RBI mandates. Additionally, instances of FASTags not being affixed to vehicle windshields intentionally, causing delays at toll plazas and inconvenience to other highway users, were noted.

With a penetration rate of approximately 98 percent and over 8 crore users, FASTag has transformed the electronic toll collection system in India. The ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ initiative is expected to enhance toll operations’ efficiency and ensure seamless and comfortable journeys for users. Operating on Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, FASTag facilitates toll payments directly from the linked prepaid or savings account.
