ET MSME Regional Summit in Indore: Industry leaders unveil strategies to propel the growth and innovation of MP’s MSME sector


The Indore edition of the ET Make in India MSME Regional Summit brought together key stakeholders of Madhya Pradesh’s MSME industry, including policymakers, top entrepreneurs, and experts, to discuss growth trends in the state’s burgeoning MSME sector and chart the roadmap to boost entrepreneurial activity in the region.

“In order to establish more MSMEs in the area of manufacturing production or in the service sector or the businesses sector, we have come up with Mukhya Mantri Udyam Kranti Yojna. Under this scheme, we are giving 3% interest subvention for loans ranging between the amount of Rs 50,000 to Rs 50 lakh. The SC/ST and OBC departments also have come up with their own schemes pertaining to establishment of businesses and MSME units,” said P. Narahari, IAS, Secretary, MSME Ministry, Madhya Pradesh Government during his keynote address at the recently concluded Indore edition of the ET Make in India – MSME Regional Summit 2023.

With a focus on themes such as manufacturing opportunities and challenges, empowering SMB retailers, leveraging technology for ease of doing business, building future-readiness and fostering innovation in MSMEs, and more, the Indore edition featured a series of engaging talks, panel discussions, and masterclasses covering a wide range of topics relevant to the MSME sector, throughout the day.

“The biggest problem of today is the lack of an organised distribution system. While customers like us can buy anything online and get it delivered within 48 hours, there are many who still face inefficiencies and delays in the market. We recognised this challenge and started the process of addressing it every day. As a result, we became a significant disruptor in the market, catering to a vast segment that was previously underserved” said Tanutejas Saraswat, CEO & Founder of ShopKirana, a homegrown startup that’s making great strides in empowering SMB retailers and kirana stores with their solutions.

He further shared insights on how Shopkirana’s platform is helping solve two major problems – the inefficiencies on the one side and the lack of access to the right distribution channels on the other. “By bridging this gap, we have empowered both customers and businesses. Now, they no longer have to wait for days or rely on fragmented platforms. We have created a seamless experience where people can easily find what they need and authorised distributors can expand their reach,” Saraswat added.Vinod Vyas, Deputy General Manager, NSIC, while shedding light on the NSIC’s role in enabling MSMEs to unlock their full growth potential said, “With our services and resources, we aim to enhance the competitiveness and sustainability of MSMEs. We offer benefits such as subsidies, financing assistance, procurement support, and marketing services. By leveraging our platform, MSMEs can expand their reach, participate in government tenders, access global markets, and avail themselves of various schemes and incentives.” In another session, Seema Mishra, Proprietor, Maheshwari Creations; Saurabh Singh Mehta, Immediate Past Chairman, CII Malwa Zone & Executive Director, Kriti Group; and, Anugya Handoo, Sr. Statistical Officer, MSME-DFO, Indore, Ministry of MSME engaged in an insightful panel discussion on the theme of ‘Empowering MSMEs to power India’s economic growth trajectory: The road ahead.’ During the discussion, they shed light on the challenges and opportunities faced by MSMEs and explored strategies and initiatives needed to foster their growth, increasing their potential contribution to the country’s economy.
