Electric vehicle crowned World Car of the Year 2024 with 'sensational' 350-mile range – full list of winners – GB News


The Kia EV9 has been named World Car of the Year and World Electric Vehicle at this year’s New York International Auto Show.

The electric vehicle was praised for its 350-mile range by a jury of 100 automotive journalists representing 29 countries.


The World Car Awards recognised the electric vehicle’s design, seven-seat interior and competitive price point starting from £64,245 which helped it secure this year’s victory.

Kia had already claimed three wins at the awards including the Telluride as World Car of the Year and the Soul EV as World Urban Car in 2020, along with the Kia EV6 GT taking World Performance Car of the Year in 2023.

The model is fitted with a 3,100-mm wheelbase, supported by a 21-inch, 20-inch or 19-inch wheels, depending on the version.

It also has the option to include either a 76.1 khw battery or a 99.8 kwh battery to power the SUV vehicle on roads.

Other big winners of the night included BMW 5 Series/i5 being named World Luxury Car and Ioniq 5N which won World Performance Car at the New York awards.

Meanwhile, the Volvo EX30 took home World Urban Car of the year while the Toyota Prius was named Car Design of the Year.

As for car person of the year, this award was handed to Adrian Newey from Red Bull Racing.
