Amr Talaat, The Egyptian Minister of Communications and Information Technology met with Anne Neuberger, US Deputy National Security Advisor for Cyber and Emerging Technologies, in Washington, DC.
The meeting discussed ways to enhance cooperation between Egypt and the United States in the fields of communications and information technology.
During the meeting, Talaat explained the work axes of Egypt’s digital strategy, the state’s efforts to build a digital economy based on innovation, and what this requires of providing a secure information infrastructure throughout the republic.
He pointed out that a number of projects are being implemented with huge investments to develop the local and international information infrastructure, with attention to cybersecurity and taking the necessary steps to secure the communications and information infrastructure to provide a secure environment for various sectors to provide integrated electronic services, in light of the national cybersecurity strategy.
The Minister of Communications indicated in a press statement on Wednesday that Egypt has many competitive advantages that qualified it to become the focus of attention of international companies working in the field of information technology services, outsourcing and cross-border services, pointing to the state’s efforts to create a legislative environment conducive to investment, including the issuance of the Personal Data Protection Law.
The Minister also held meetings with a number of members of the US Congress, including Bob Latta, a member of the US Congress in the Energy and Commerce Committee, and Chairman of the Subcommittee on Communications and Technology, in addition to Dutch Ruppersberger, a member of the US Congress and co-chair of the Friends of Egypt Gathering in the US Congress.
The meeting reviewed the most prominent joint cooperation projects between Egypt and the United States in the fields of communications and information technology, and mechanisms for advancing joint cooperation in all relevant fields.
Talaat also met with Daryl Issa, a member of the US Congress; where he expressed his aspiration to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the fields of communications and information technology, including attracting more investments from U.S. companies to the Egyptian communications and IT sector.
In a related context, Talaat held discussions about the investment opportunities available during a round-table meeting with a number of officials from American companies specialized in the field of communications and information technology who are members of the American Chamber of Commerce.
