E-News | New Data Classification Policy available for public comment – WVU ENews

A proposed policy for the classification of University data is now posted for review and public comment. Once implemented, this new policy would replace the Sensitive Data Policy.

Faculty, staff and students may send comments to Information Technology Services at InfoSec@mail.wvu.edu before midnight Friday, May 19.

Log in to read the proposed policy.

This new policy would create four classifications for WVU data: Sensitive, Confidential, Internal and Public. WVU currently only identifies Sensitive Data. Classifying data more specifically will help WVU more effectively evaluate risk and determine appropriate security protocols. It will also support more complete inventories and the monitoring of critical systems and data.

After the public comment period ends, this policy and any appropriate updates will be forwarded to the University Planning Committee for final review, revision and approval.
