Drivers suffer from ‘real bottlenecks’ as insurance costs price many out of electric cars – Express

Jo Hammonds, Head of Fleet Services at Sanctuary Group, also advised that the Government should still actively encourage drivers buying electric models and ensure the infrastructure is available to all drivers.

She said: “Since 2021 we have begun to convert our business fleet to EV in a drive towards sustainability and partly thanks to beneficial tax breaks, however having over 30 vehicles on order or on fleet, we are now facing challenges like lack of charging infrastructure, longer repair times and poor access to new parts, and a lack of skilled technicians to service the fleet.

“We are spearheading the transition to EVs in the UK, but we need more support to help reduce our increased overheads and make them operationally viable. With Government investment in infrastructure and upskilling, and support from insurance providers in reducing risk and in turn premiums, we are confident to keep leading the charge in EV adoption.”
