LUCKNOW: A passport like mandatory verification will have to be carried out for Aadhaar card from now on.
This, because the state government, and not Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), will henceforth conduct verification for the complete enrollment in Aadhaar.
“From Wednesday, only after the demographic verification from state authority, the enrollment in Aadhaar would be complete. One has to go through the process of verification just like a passport,” said Lt Col Prashant Kumar Singh, deputy director general of UIDAI, Lucknow region.
Also, Aadhaar enrollment facility will be available only at a few select centres, including the main post office, sub post office and Aadhaar Seva Centre operational in each district.
After Aadhaar enrollment at the centres, the demographic information will be sent to the state authorities via service plus portal for verification.
The data will be accessible to the planning department headquarters of the UP government, DM, ADM and SDM office.”The SDM will ensure the physical verification of all the documents submitted by the applicant with the help of his men, including tehsildar, naib tehsildar, kanungo and lekhpal. Once the verification is completed, it will take a maximum of 180 days to generate Aadhaar. The state authorities have the right to reject the enrollment application, if the documents are found forged, false or misleading,” Singh added. It’s important to note that residents of UP living in other states, union territories or in foreign countries, are likely to go to their home state to get their Aadhaar verified.
Deputy director general of UIDAI Lucknow region, clarified that these guidelines are for those residents who are above 18 years of age and are getting their Aadhaar made for the first time.
Meanwhile, officials in Lucknow administration claimed that they are yet to receive an official letter regarding the new rules.
The Aadhaar enrollment began in 2010 and till now it was UIDAI’s responsibility to verify the demographic details of the person turning up for Aadhaar enrollment with proof of identity and address.
According to UIDAI, there are a total 23.56 crore residents of Uttar Pradesh who have enrolled for Aadhaar till Tuesday. On an average 13,226 people above 18 years of age enroll every month in Aadhaar. There are currently 1,237 Aadhaar enrollment centres.
