Direct tax mopup rises 16% to Rs 16.9 lakh crore in FY25 so far


Net direct tax collection increased 15.88% year-on-year to about ₹16.90 lakh crore till January 12 in this financial year, government data released on Monday showed.

Mop-up from net non-corporate taxes, which includes mainly personal income-tax, stood at more than ₹8.74 lakh crore since April 2024.

Net corporate tax collection between April 1, 2024, and January 12 this year was around ₹7.68 lakh crore.

Net collection from securities transaction tax stood at ₹44,538 crore till January 12 this fiscal.

Refunds of about ₹3.74 lakh crore were issued during the period, a 42.49% increase over the year-ago period. Gross direct tax mop-up increased 20% to ₹20.64 lakh crore during the period, the data showed.

The government has budgeted ₹22.07 lakh crore from direct taxes in the current fiscal, with corporate tax collection of ₹10.20 lakh crore, personal income-tax and other taxes of ₹11.87 lakh crore.
