Many banks charge for your debit card from second year and the charge on it depends on type of card you hold. Even if your card was stolen or lost, banks may charge a fee to replace it.

Debit card can be replaced for various reasons including when your card is misplaced or stolen, card is damaged.

HDFC Bank
HDFC Bank replacement or reissuance charges for debit cards is Rs. 200 + applicable taxes.ICICI Bank
There will be a fee of Rs. 200.00 plus 18% Goods and Services Tax (GST) which will be charged for replacement debit card.

Card replacement Charges: INR 199 + taxes extra.

What precautions do I take while using the Debit Cards

  • Never disclose the PIN
  • While doing any Point of Sale transactions, always ensure that card is swiped by the vendor in your presence.
  • Never disclose CVV2 (3- digit number printed on reverse of the debit card) to anyone.
  • While doing e-commerce transactions always ensure that the URL starts with https (and not http) for secure transactions.
  • If you suspect that your card is compromised, you need to immediately hot-list the card and obtain replacement.

What to do when you have lost your Debit Card

If you fear your debit card has been stolen, you must notify the bank right away. Report the loss of your debit card. Use any method, including phone banking, the bank’s mobile app, online banking, or going in person, to block your card as soon as possible. You can ask the bank to issue a duplicate or new card after your card has been blocked.
