Daniel Kelly ’17EDD will join NC State’s College of Education as an assistant professor of technology, engineering, and design education beginning Aug. 15.
Currently, Kelly is an assistant professor of STEM education at Texas Tech University. His research is focused on improving STEM educational access and equity for students at high risk of non-completion of high school, such as students in foster care or involved in criminal justice.
“I am excited to be returning to the College of Education to work with the amazing faculty and students and to help prepare the next generation of researchers and educators,” said Kelly, who received his doctorate in technology education from NC State’s College of Education.
Kelly recently received a National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER grant and was recognized as a Distinguished Technology Educator by the International Technology and Engineering Educators Association. He founded and served as editor-in-chief for the Journal of Foster Care. Before entering academia, Kelly served as a middle and high school technology and engineering teacher in Durham County.
While a doctoral student at the College of Education, Kelly started an outreach program called the STEM Explorers Summer Camp Program, which was designed for rising seventh, eighth and ninth graders who were in foster care.
