Cryptocurrency used for payment – Times of India

Ahmedabad: The drug trafficking operation was carried out on the dark web and social media channels. Advertisements for drugs would be put up on social media and the dark web. Those aware of the business would place orders. Payment would be made in advance through cryptocurrency. Only after the payment is made is the parcel dispatched through courier.
The courier is given a false or wrong address, and the parcel is collected while the delivery worker is midway to the (false) address. Officials said the involvement of courier company workers cannot be ruled, as an international consignment cannot just be handed over midway.
The FIR filed at the city’s Cybercrime police station mentions that the consignee addresses were in the Ambawadi, Ambli, Subhash Bridge, Rakhial, Vatva and Nalsarovar areas in Ahmedabad, six addresses were in Surat city, and one each from Vavol in Gandhinagar, Bechraji, Bhavnagar, Idar, Vapi, Botad, Rajkot and Vadodara. In most of these parcels the apparent item being sent were books. One of these books ‘3000 Questions About Me’ contained a white substance that was found to be cocaine.
