Couple living abroad set to earn £124,700 from side hustle success after retiring early

Alex and Ryan Davis are set to make $155,000, the equivalent of around £124,700, this year, from their businesses which began as side hustles.

On top of this, the couple were able to retire early at 29 and quit their corporate jobs to live in South America.

This was thanks to having lived abroad previously, which saved them money earlier in their career, and frugal spending habits once they returned to the US.

Originally, Mr Davis had a side hustle as a fitness coach but this has since snowballed into “33 income streams” for the pair.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, Mr Davis shared how his first side hustle gave him a taste of life outside corporate America.

He said: “I started a side hustle in 2014 in network marketing. I was a Team Beachbody Coach. By 2018 my knowledge, experience, and audience had grown considerably, but my income was flat.

“So, my wife and I decided to quit our engineering jobs and become health and lifestyle bloggers.

“We still earn money from Team Beachbody, but now we have 33 other income streams.

“As a side hustle, my Team Beachbody business earned 7-10K. In 2022, we made $107,500 (£86,489.13) from the website and it’s projected to earn $155,000 (£124,705.25) in 2023.”

With this success, the couple were able to achieve FIRE, otherwise known as Financial Independence, Retire Early,

The financial movement has gained momentum in recent years and the Davis family have benefitted from being able to meet this goal.

However, Ms Davis addressed how their side hustles allow them to maintain some semblance of the nine-to-five they once knew.

She explained: “While FIRE is nearly all about planning, budgeting, and discipline, to make it successful you need to take a leap of faith.

“Have confidence in yourself and go for it. Corporate America will always be there to fall back upon, but you’ll never know if you can pull off FIRE without doing it first.

“Also, there’s a common misconception that once you go FIRE, you stop working completely.

“While this is one option, it’s common for folks — especially who are younger — to instead work on monetizing a passion project, or simply pursuing another hobby that they’ve been interested in.”

The blogger also highlighted how FIRE and continuing their side hustles have been the “biggest gift” for their family.

Ms Davis said: “We recently had our first child and were able to take a year of parental leave with her.

“During this time, we visited family and took the time to rest, recover, and enjoy our new family life. Spending this time with our daughter is priceless.”
