The actors and writers strike is still going strong, but experts said you’re probably just starting to feel the effects of that.
The strikers are advocating for better pay, job security, and regulating the use of artificial intelligence.
James Ivory, a professor of media studies at Virginia Tech said while Virginia is not the center of the film industry, the strike does impact Virginians directly.
“Most Virginians will be affected by the fact that they are finally starting to see their film releases being delayed, their television releases being delayed, their television shows having to find creative ways of carrying on, and we’re also seeing lower box office revenue,” Ivory said.

Ivory said it’s a difficult situation because the companies are still trying to figure out how to make money off of streaming, and the strikers feel they are not making enough either.
