Clever Samsung television upgrade may finally convince you to ditch your 4K TV

If you still haven’t seen the point of ditching your trusted 4K TV and switching things up to pixel-packed 8K then Samsung’s latest television upgrade may finally convince you. The Korean technology giant has just shown off its next generation of striking screens at the CES technology show in Las Vegas which now features much smarter AI to help boost content and improve the user experience.

Samsung is boasting that its latest and greatest goggleboxes come packed with its most innovative TV processor yet – the NQ8 AI Gen3 – which is not only incredibly intelligent but also around twice as fast as anything it has launched before.

That power brings a swathe of enhancements to homes including much better upscaling. As most people might be aware, there’s very limited 8K content available in the UK but the new Neo QLED screens can automatically sharpen lower-resolution HD programmes so they look more impressive on bigger displays.

Upscaling isn’t anything new but this latest innovation should make it better with standard HD movies and TV shows being given an ultra-high resolution makeover.

Those who love viewing sporting action will also be pleased to see a function called AI Motion Enhancer Pro which solves common issues – such as ball distortion – when watching things such as football. Samsung says this new feature automatically detects the sport type being viewed and uses deep learning to apply the proper ball detection model.

Another bonus coming to the range is something called Real Depth Enhancer Pro which is able to use AI to add extra detail to content. That’s especially useful during fast-paced action scenes and it should bring a smoother image to the screen. It’s also being promised that Real Depth Enhancer Pro will make images appear more lifelike and three-dimensional.

As well as boosting the picture, there’s also better sound coming to 2024 TVs as well with Samsung offering an AI dialogue booster which should make hearing what people are saying a lot easier.

Other extras include an update to Samusng’s Tizen OS which improves the usability by offering a more personalised experience plus there’s the option to add family profiles which will show recommendations for different people. Owners will also find it easier to integrate what’s on their phones and wearables with their TVs.

Finally, the overall look has been improved with something Samsung is calling an Infinity Air Design. This includes a screen which is now only 12.9mm in depth along with a unique mirror effect which makes it seem as if the TV hovering in its surroundings.

“Now that we are living through the hyper-connected era, it’s no longer just about delivering quality visual experiences. Displays should enhance our lives both on and off the screen,” said SW Yong, President and Head of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics.

“Samsung’s AI screens, powered by on-device AI technology, are designed to be the centrepiece of users’ homes, connecting all compatible devices to offer users a more flexible and diverse lifestyle.”

Along with the premium 8K Neo QLED TVs, Samsung is also refreshing its OLED line-up with displays that are now 20 percent brighter than before. New ‘OLED Glare Free’ technology — specifically designed for 2024 S95 OLED screens — also preserves colour accuracy and reduces reflections plus there’s higher refresh rates of up to 144Hz for better gaming.

There’s no word on a release date or pricing just yet but we expect these TVs to launch in the UK a bit later this year.
