CGI goes on recruitment drive in the Scottish Borders

CGI is running a recruitment event in Tweedbank, as it seeks to bolster its workforce from the Borders.

These jobs will involve not only working on Scottish Borders Council projects to create the UK’s first smart rural region, but also on other solutions in and around Scotland and the UK.

The IT consultancy and council began their relationship in 2016, when it won a £92.5m contract, over an initial 13-year term, to become the primary provider of managed services.

In the eight years since, the partnership has helped establish a digital learning programme, alongside providing IT backing for the local authority’s health and social care, energy, transport and financial services.

The recruitment event on 7 February is looking to attract people interested in opportunities in the tech sector, with roles available including software developers, application support analysts, testers, business analysts, architects – both technical and solution – technical IT analysts and project managers.

The event is being held jointly with Scottish Borders Council, which is looking to recruit workers for roles from adult social care to catering, occupational therapy, social work and teaching.

Lindsay McGranaghan, CGI’s senior vice president for Scotland and Northern Ireland, said: “Together, CGI and Scottish Borders Council have made hugely positive steps towards the Scottish Borders becoming the most technologically advanced rural area in the UK.

“Our job opportunities are open to all, but we are especially keen to hear from the cohort of Borders students who have been educated through the Inspire Learning programme, which focuses not only on the core curriculum, but also on digital innovation, digital literacy, improving skills through technological advance, and allowing creativity, entrepreneurship and innovation to thrive.”

Scottish Borders Council’s director of people performance and change Clair Hepburn added: “The event will showcase our services and promote the council as an employer.

“It also offers those in attendance the opportunity to view some of the great digital work CGI and Scottish Borders Council have worked on together, improving services and outcomes for communities across the Borders.”
