Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.21%


 

Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the , and sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the rose 0.21%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the were Badger Infrastructure Solutions Ltd (TSX:), which rose 6.79% or 1.91 points to trade at 30.03 at the close. OceanaGold Corporation (TSX:) added 5.41% or 0.17 points to end at 3.31 and Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp (TSX:) was up 3.48% or 0.37 points to 11.00 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Altus Group Limited (TSX:), which lost 4.57% or 2.63 points to trade at 54.89 in late trade. Aritzia Inc (TSX:) declined 3.65% or 1.48 points to end at 39.03 and Lightspeed Commerce Inc (TSX:) shed 3.27% or 0.69 points to 20.38.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 505 to 469 and 98 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 1.71% to 17.80.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.75% or 14.90 to $1,981.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 1.09% or 0.76 to hit $69.20 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 1.25% or 0.95 to trade at $74.96 a barrel.

CAD/USD was unchanged 0.19% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.48% to 0.68.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.56% at 102.78.
