The FTSE 100 closed down 25.94 points at 8140.74.
The Bank of England has cut interest rates as expected to 4.75 per cent, despite the re-emergence of concerns about inflationary pressures.
It is the second time this year the central bank has made a 0.25 percentage point reduction, following a similar move in August.
