Baylor’s Elise McGhee (Offensive), Houston’s Kate Georgiades (Defensive) and Kansas’ Raegan Burns (Rookie) procured Big 12 honors for the ninth week of the season.
McGhee stepped up for the Bears in the two victories against then-No. 24 UCF. The junior ranked third among league players for the week in points per set (5.07) and kills per set (4.57) while hitting .342. She totaled 32 kills with just seven errors in the three and four-set victories against the Knights. This is the health science major’s second Big 12 weekly recognition and her first Offensive Player of the Week honor.
Georgiades led all league players during the week with 5.67 digs per set in Houston’s two sweeps of Texas Tech. The fitness and sport major’s 20 digs in the first contest were her 43rd career match with 20 or more digs. This is her first league weekly honor after collecting 34 total digs in the two matches.
Burns notched her 14th match in her true freshman season recording double-digit digs when she posted 17 in a four-set win over TCU. Her digs per set (4.25) was the third-highest in the Big 12 during Week 9. Burns joins Baylor’s Kyndal Stowers and Iowa State’s Nayeli Gonzalez as freshmen with two Rookie of the Week honors this season.
