BROCKTON − There were two fatal shootings in the city last week.
A 35-year-old Brockton died in a Boston hospital after police said he was shot near Lexington and Green streets on Tuesday, and a woman was fatally shot and killed while sitting in a car just past midnight on Friday, police said.
The Flying Banana, a frozen dessert shop with dozens of flavors, has opened in Middleboro. A family of local pilots opened the airport-themed shop to bring a little uniqueness to every bite.
Spectators lined the streets to cheer on the 39th annual East Bridgewater Christmas Parade. Police officers led the parade and participants included East Bridgewater Jr/Sr High School Marching Band.

For 14 years, Brockton City Councilor-at-large David Teixeira has owned a mattress store — Mattress Makers of New England — downtown on the corner of School and Montello streets, adjacent to the School Street MBTA Commuter Rail bridge. Teixeira said on one morning he found 15 needles dropped behind his store. He said he built a fence surrounding the property and two weeks later a portion was “desecrated.” Downtown Brockton has seen an influx of people experiencing homelessness, many of whom come from nearby towns to utilize the shelter system and other social services Brockton offers, according to Jazmine Bradsher, Brockton’s director of social services.

A family of local pilots opened the airport-themed shop to bring a little uniqueness to every bite. “One of the most popular treats is milk chocolate dipped banana with Reese’s Pieces and a peanut butter drizzle, another popular one is the milk chocolate dipped banana with Oreo drizzled with marshmallow,” Barry Wyllie, 46, owner of The Flying Banana, said.

Brockton man, 35, dies in hospital after Tuesday shooting
A Brockton man who was shot Tuesday evening in the city has died, officials said. The Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office said Thursday afternoon that Marvin Hill, 35, of Brockton, died at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston about 7:20 p.m. Wednesday. Brockton police responded to a report of a shooting outside 28 Lexington St., near the corner of Green Street, about 6:17 p.m. Tuesday. “Upon arrival, first responders located a male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound,” the DA’s office said in a written statement.

Brockton firefighter falls through second-story floor while battling Avon house fire
A Brockton firefighter fell through the second-story floor of a home while battling a two-alarm house fire at 173 E. Main St., in Avon, Avon Acting Fire Chief Kevin Partridge said in a written statement. “We had one of our members, while searching floor 2 for a report of someone missing, fall through the burned-out floor,” Brockton Fire Chief Brian Nardelli. “A ‘mayday’ was declared by him and his officer, and fortunately he was able to self-extricate within seconds.” The firefighter did not sustain injuries, but was evaluated on scene by emergency medical services.

A woman was sentenced to prison for role in 2015 Bridgewater murder
A New Hampshire woman has been sentenced to prison for her role in the murder of a woman who was found dead and burned in Bridgewater in 2015. Shannon Squires, 47, of Manchester, pleaded guilty in Plymouth Superior Court to one count each of manslaughter and kidnapping in the murder of 29-year-old Ashley Bortner, of New Jersey. On Nov. 3, 2005, Bridgewater police received a 911 call just before midnight for a report that a fire was burning alongside the MBTA Commuter Rail tracks in Bridgewater and discovered it was a human body on fire. “Bortner’s body had been burned over 70%, she had been gagged, and her face was wrapped with a towel,” the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office wrote in a statement in June.
