Britons could save over £100 on their energy bills with a ‘simple hack’ – check now

Household bills experts have come up with a “simple hack” that could save families more than £100 on what they pay for energy..

Energy bills will remain a big concern for many, despite the energy price cap dropping to £2,074 a year for the typical household from July.

With energy prices still sky high, and the wait still on to see new cheap fixed deals available to customers, household money-saving tool Nous.co has come up with a simple hack that could save families more than £100 on what they pay for energy now.

They will still leave them able to choose a new fixed deal when the time comes.

‌Households can save more than £100 per year without signing up to a fixed deal, and some have saved £300.

They will then see their bills fall again from July when the new Ofgem price cap comes into effect.

It works because Nous gives any commissions earned from switching back to customers in the form of monthly rewards.

Greg Marsh, founder and CEO of Nous, said: “UK households have been struggling with soaring energy bills over the last couple of years without being able to save at all.

“Wholesale energy costs have plummeted, but these huge decreases aren’t being passed on to consumers.

“We want to make sure everyone pays a fair price for their energy. At the moment, joining Nous.co is the only way to save on your bills. We have saved some households more than £300 on their energy, and almost all can save well over £100.”

The finance app also has a feature to help people keep on top of their spending. For example, it records important events like when subscriptions are due for renewal, when mortgage deals are ending, and when it is time to renegotiate contracts.

Mr Marsh: “No one can completely escape the effects, but we can all do things to make small savings which, together, can add up to a fair whack.”

He explained that if people shaved 20 percent off their daily shower time, taking it from 10 minutes to eight minutes, it certainly help their funds.

This Is Money says people can save £43 each year for each person within the house. Say that this applies to two people having daily showers, a solid £86 worth of savings will be made.

Additionally, people can make savings by washing their clothes at a lower temperature.

When doing the laundry, Britons should check for the modern washing machine’s talents.

It can clean clothes effectively at a lower temperature so moving from 40°C to 30°C allows people to get three washes for the price of two.‌

Washing machine-dependant, that could be using the same amount of energy too saving them up to £40.

Another simple solution that can knock more than £100 off one’s bill over the year is turning off items not being used such as TVs or phone chargers, for example. People should turn them off at the wall.

The Energy Saving Trust believes it could save £30 per person over the year. Say that applies to a four-person family home, £120 could be saved.
