BRISTOL, Va. (WCYB) —
While the first semester of the school year will soon be coming to a close, safety and security remains a talking point for local school districts.
Bristol Virginia Public Schools says it was recently awarded a COPS Grant, totaling roughly half-a-million-dollars.
News 5 asked David Scott, superintendent of Bristol Virginia Public Schools to explain how the funds will be utilized and how it will play a key role in student safety.
“This will be a push button that is on the back of a badge that will allow us to have response teams in place,” said Scott. “When we press a certain button sequence, it can notify people that there’s a medical emergency or any kind of other safety response. We are looking to that to be a real gamechanger in the future.”
Scott says implementation of the technology will be staggered, but will eventually be in all Bristol Virginia Public School buildings.
