Several of Boris Johnson’s closest political allies have been censured for “contempts of parliament” and disparaging the MPs investigating the partygate scandal, according to a report by the House of Commons privileges committee on Thursday.

Conservative MPs Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg, Nadine Dorries, Dame Andrea Jenkyns and Dame Priti Patel, as well as Lord Zac Goldsmith, were called out for “some of the most disturbing examples of the co-ordinated campaign to interfere” with the committee’s work.

The group of senior politicians were criticised for attacking members of the committee in an effort to influence the outcome of the investigation into whether Johnson misled the Commons, impede the work of the committee and discredit its conclusions.
