Rochester, N.Y. — State leaders have secured funds to advance plans to build a new state-of-the-art research facility at the University of Rochester.
Sen. Chuck Schumer, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and Congressman Joe Morelle announced nearly $18 million in federal funding for the U of R to begin creating a new laser facility, which would become the most powerful of its kind in the world.
Leaders said it would help boost the Rochester-Finger Lakes and Upstate New York regions as tech leaders in the U.S. for decades to come, helping America lead the way for laser energy innovation.
“Rochester is building on its legacy and charging forward as a global leader in the future of the laser industry, which is vital to our national security and can revolutionize our quest for both clean energy,” Schumer said.
