Bilchev, Lee Secure Quarterfinal Spots – Women's Tennis … – Georgia Tech


GAINESVILLE, Fla. Kylie Bilchev and Carol Lee both secured spots in the 2023 ITA Southeast Regional quarterfinals as Georgia Tech women’s tennis closed out day three of the tournament on Saturday.

Bilchev and Lee both continued strong performances in singles action today, collecting three-set victories. Bilchev faced Qavia Lopez (Florida) and rebounded from dropping the first set, 6-3, to push Lopez to a third with a 6-4 second set victory. Bilchev gained momentum early in the final set and collected a 6-1 decision to clinch the match and advance to the quarterfinals.

Lee battled North Florida’s Annabelle Davis and fought hard to take the first set in a tiebreak, 7-6 (5). But Davis evened the match, taking the second, 6-2. With a spot to the quarterfinals on the line, Lee clinched the match in the third, 6-3, to advance to Sunday.

Competing in the back draw, Given Roach pocketed a pair of singles victories to move into the consolation quarterfinals. The freshman dominated Cheri Darley (Stetson), 6-2, 6-1, before downing Marta Falceto Font (USF), 6-4, 6-2.

Action got started in the morning with the doubles round of 16 with two Yellow Jacket pairs vying for quarterfinal spots. After cruising in the first round, Roach and Kate Sharabura faced Xinyi Nong and Isabella Pfennig (Miami), putting up a hard-fought battle, but falling in a heartbreaker, 8-6. Meanwhile, Bilchev and Lee faced the six-seeded Anna Arkadianou and Victoria Allen of Florida State. The Jackets fought to the last point, taking the Seminoles to a tiebreak, but couldn’t pull out the win, falling, 8-7 (3).

Action continues at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex on Sunday with the singles quarterfinals and semifinals. Play begins at 9 a.m.
