Best phone of 2023 revealed – does iPhone or Android come out on top?

It’s been another tremendous year for tech, with all of the world’s biggest gadget brands releasing shiny new devices. During the past 12 months, we’ve seen another explosion of new smartphones – including many that fold in half – feature-packed tablets, pin-sharp TVs, speedy laptops, and upgraded streaming devices hit store shelves. Now, we know exactly which gadgets should be on your Christmas stocking wish list.

The team at Pocket-lint have just held their yearly EE-sponsored awards at a glitzy event in London’s West End and plenty of gadget gongs were dished out to the best products of the year.

All the winners were chosen by a team of top judges, including Express.co.uk Technology Editor David Snelling, with firms including Apple, Sony, Bose and picking up those coveted awards.

Perhaps the biggest winner of the night was Apple, which managed to fend off competition from an army of Android rivals to collect the gong for Best Flagship Smartphone. The iPhone 15 Pro Max beat top-tier handsets like the Pixel 8 Pro and Galaxy Galaxy S23 Ultra to grab the top spot.

The best phone wasn’t the only Apple picked up with the US tech firm’s iPad Pro and new MacBook Air 15-inch also winning prizes for best tablet and best laptop.

Alongside Apple, there was also good news for Amazon with the online store’s Fire TV Stick 4k Max winning Best Streaming Device.

Sony was back to its best with its WF-1000XM5 getting the prize for Best In-Ear Headphones and Best Folding Phone went to the new OnePlus Open.

Other winners included the BMW i4 (Best Car), The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (Best Game) and Disney+ (Best Streaming Service).

“With 20 years of experience, the Pocket-lint Awards has charted the rise and fall of many gadgets over the years,” said Pocket-Lint Editor Chris Hall. “The winners in 2023 reflect the best of the best, the tech you really should be paying attention to – not just for now, but also for the future.”
