AVG and Avast share a spot on this list because they are the same app. We don’t mean that they just share the same features (which they do) or are owned by the same company (which they are). They are the exact same app, right down to the UI. Below are a couple of screenshots from AVG Mobile Security:

Aside from the background color and the icons, these apps are identical. Even the wording of the feature descriptions is word-for-word the same.
But are these apps any good? The features work as intended, and during our testing, none of the browsing-targeted features, including the VPN, had a noticeable effect on performance. While we did not notice an effect, several user reviews for both apps have noted struggling with the VPN at times. Thankfully, there are plenty of alternatives in that market.
Avast Mobile Security and AVG Mobile Security are available for free on the Apple App Store. Yearly premium subscriptions unlock features such as the aforementioned VPN and unlimited use of the Photo Vault. Both AVG and Avast’s subscriptions cost $19.99 per year and come with a 14-day free trial.
