Prices are still high thanks to inflation, so it’s more important than ever to save money where you can. While Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and other holiday weekends are known for big sales, another shopping holiday might just offer the best savings of all: Amazon Prime Day.

Last year the event took place July 12-13, and while the online retailer hasn’t revealed the dates of Amazon Prime Day 2023, we expect the event to return in July. During this two-day savings bonanza, Prime members can find deep discounts on everything from clothing and beauty supplies to Amazon devices, electronics, home goods, apparel, and toys.

Amazon Prime Day is only available to Prime members, so the general public won’t have access to these deals. A Prime membership will run you $14.99 per month or $139 annually. Students and select government-assistance recipients can join Prime for about half the regular monthly membership cost. However, if you’re not ready to commit to a plan but want to shop Prime Day deals, consider starting a 30-day free trial during the sales event. You can take advantage of Amazon’s free trial if you haven’t been a Prime member within the previous 12 months.

Shopping the Amazon Prime Day sale can be overwhelming, so it’s a good idea to start planning early. We’ve rounded up some of the best Amazon Prime Day deals from last year to help you get an idea of what to expect when the sales event kicks off this year.

How Long Do Amazon Prime Day Deals Last?

Amazon Prime Day deals officially last two days, but some may only last one day or be a Lightning Deal that’s good for only a few hours. In addition, some products may sell out quickly. If you find a deal you like, its best to act on it as soon as you can.

Prime Day isn’t the only opportunity to save money at Amazon. You can shop its Deal of the Day section all year round for special 24-hour discounts on a variety of categories. The retailer also offers Lightning Deals throughout the day all year long.

Tips for Finding the Best Amazon Prime Day Deals

Beware of fake reviews

Reviews with glaring grammatical errors or products that have a high percentage of five-star reviews and almost as many one-star reviews can be red flags. But there are ways to weed out fake reviews. Browser extensions like Fakespot will grade each item from A to F based on whether the reviews seem legitimate. Keep in mind the grade refers to the quality of the reviews – it’s not a review of the product.

Compare prices

Some large retailers hold their own rival sales during Prime Day. Target is running its Deal Days event July 11-13. Best Buy is also known for competing with Prime Day by holding its own Black Friday in July savings event.

Do your research

Have a list of items you’re interested in and research them before the shopping event starts. The short time frame of the event will call for quick decisions and you want to be sure of your purchases.

Review the return policy

Most items purchased through Amazon have a 30-day return period after delivery. However, some items aren’t returnable, such as products missing UPCs as well as gift cards, select jewelry items, and some health and personal care items.

Resellers may also have a different return policy. Check the full return policy for all the details.
