The Government of Belize is crafting a national policy framework for science and technology. The Ministry of Science and Technology is executing its development under the lead of Minister of State Dr. Louis Zabaneh. It is the country’s first national science, technology, and innovation strategy and seeks to serve several functions in government policymaking. Minister of Education, Culture, Science, and Technology Francis Fonseca explained that work is underway to tie science and economic development.
Francis Fonseca, Ministry of Education: “You know we’ve created the Ministry of Science and Technology for the first time. We’ve of course had to do a lot of planning. So that’s one of the assignments I’ve given to the Minister of State, Dr. Louis Zabaneh. I want him to come up, work along with a team, so we’ve set up an advisory council, an advisory council that will help him to come up with a clear plan and strategy for science and technology moving forward.”
