Before elections, don't 'state' the obvious



In Hindi and some other non-English Indian languages, ‘rashtra’ and ‘rajya’ make a cleaner separation of meaning. But, then, woe be upon anyone who brings up ‘desh’ as anything but nation – even as desh has more meanings than ‘country’ in the national sense. Why, even ‘country’ has more meanings than rashtra, as folks who have ‘country houses’ or go to ‘country clubs’ know.
