A CHEDDAR cheese toastie is the bees’ knees now the weather has turned colder.
But with the long winter stretching ahead, its appeal may eventually turn stale.
Vary your hot sarnie with these cheap and easy ideas and track down the best buys on toastie makers . . .
NICE AND CHEESY: Take your cheese toastie to the next level by adding a thin layer of chutney or onion marmalade.
Don’t forget to spread butter on the outside of the bread before cooking.
MEAN BEAN MACHINE: The only way to better cheese-topped baked beans is to put the two fillings between slices of bread and heat them in a toasty machine.

HOT AND SPICY: Slice a large naan bread in half before adding a mixture of Cheddar, spring onions and a dash of curry powder to one half, and spreading mango chutney on the other.
Bring the sandwich together and fry in butter.
Keep pressing it down in the pan to make sure the cheese melts.
LEFTOVER LUNCHES: Many evening meals make great toasted sandwich fillings the next day.
Leftover bolognese sauce or chilli are frontrunners, sprinkled with cheese.
Cooked chicken can be reinvented in a toasted sandwich with cheese and spicy sauce.
Add in some red onion and sweetcorn for a little bit of extra crunch.
TOASTILY ITALIAN: The Italians have all the ingredients for a great hot sarnie.
A combo of tangy pesto, mozzarella, a few slices of salami and chopped olives delivers a magnifico toastie.
HIGH FRYERS: You don’t need a fancy machine to crank out toasties.
They are easy to cook up in a frying pan or air fryer.
If you do opt for a machine, one of the best buys, according to consumer champion Which?, is the George Foreman 25820, which doubles as a griddle and is currently £37.33 on Amazon.
