LocalThunk, the developer of card roguelike Balatro, announced at today’s Nintendo Indie World Showcase that the game is getting several new decks — specifically, four corresponding with other popular games. These are The Witcher, Vampire Survivors, Dave the Diver and Among Us. The free update rolls out later today for all platforms.
Each of the decks shows off a different theme, face cards, and Jokers depending on the game in question. For example, with the Witcher deck, the face cards are of Geralt (King), Yennefer (Queen) and Jaskier (Jack). Each crossover deck also appears to add unique animations — for example, the Among Us deck plays a death animation whenever you play a good hand, and sushi chef Bancho from Dave the Diver slices through a set of common Jokers.
Balatro is one of the year’s most successful indie titles, having passed two million copies sold this month. At the time the developer announced this, they also said that the title is getting a large gameplay update in 2025 that will “bring new ideas and strategies to the game.” The developers also added that they had “two more surprises this summer,” with one likely being this crossover event.
For some of the games in question, this is not their first crossover. Dave the Diver crossed over with fellow 2023 indie darling Dredge last December, and Among Us has also crossed over with Vampire Survivors (among many, many others). In the case of the Witcher, it may not be a substitute for Gwent, the mobile game that CD Projekt Red has since discontinued, but it’s nice to see the characters return to a card game once more.
