Baal Aadhaar: Is there a fee to updating Aadhaar biometric details of children?



The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced that distinct forms for Aadhaar enrollment and upgrading will be used for adult residents over the age of eighteen and for children in the 0–5 and 5–18 age categories UIDAI made this announcement via an office memo dated February 6, 2023.

What are the charges to update biometric for kids

Biometric update: Update of enrolled biometrics such as fingerprint, iris and photo if done once between the age of 5 to 7 years is free and done once between the age of 15 to 17 years is free. If done otherwise the charge is Rs100

What is demographic update

Update of enrolled name, gender, date of birth, address, mobile number or email address, or any combination of the same are demographic update. If done at the same time as biometric update is free. If done separately Rs 50 will be charged.

According to the office memorandum dated August 25, 2023, “In the Forms for 0-5 and 5-18 age groups, it is mentioned under column no. 5 and 8 that ‘Birth certificate with name as Baby of………… is not allowed’. 3. The matter has been reconsidered and above condition is withdrawn with immediate effect.”

How will children be captured in the database?

According to the UIDAI website, “For children below 5 years no biometrics will be captured. Their UID be processed on the basis of demographic information and facial photograph linked with the UID of their parents. These children will need to update their biometrics of ten fingers, iris and facial photograph, when they turn 5 and 15. Intimation to this effect will be mentioned in the original Aadhaar letter.”

Here’s how to update a child’s Aadhaar card online:

Step 1: Go to the UIDAI website

Step 2: Click on the Aadhaar Card registration option

Step 3: Fill in the following details:

  • Child’s name
  • Parent’s mobile number
  • Parent’s email ID
  • Home address, area, and state

Step 4: Click on Fix Appointment

Step 5: Choose the nearest enrollment center and schedule an appointment

Step 6: Bring the following documents to the appointment:

  • Reference number
  • Printout of the form
  • Identity proof
  • Address proof
  • Proof of relationship
  • Date of birth

If the child is five years or older, biometric details will also be taken, such as ten-finger biometrics, facial photo, and iris scan.
