Thursday, April 11, 2024 – OpenAI, Google, and Mistral all unveiled new versions of their frontier AI models within 12 hours of each other, as the industry braces for a surge in activity during the summer. The wave of releases comes as the industry prepares for the upcoming showcase of the next major version of GPT, the technology that powers OpenAI’s popular chatbot Chat-GPT.

Nick Clegg indicated in London that Llama will get a third version upgrade. Soon after, OpenAI published its frontier model, the final version of GPT-4 Turbo, followed by Mistral, a French AI firm, which released its frontier model, Mixtral 8x22B.

That culture of competition has attracted criticism and has been regarded as potentially hazardous since it prevents the developer from intervening and stopping its systems from being used for malicious purposes, as well as pulling models offline if flaws or biases are uncovered and need to be rectified.
